And there she was, standing before me exactly as she appeared the night before. She cast no shadow in the absence of light. Why was she here? Had she nowhere else to go? She was washed out. No color. Her hair, loose and unkept, merged with the coil of smoke around her. She faded and reappeared with every exhale. Lit by no electric light, her face longed to be illuminated. I did not want to see her but could not bring myself to turn away. With a flick of her wrist, ash fell endlessly. She was gone. I had seen this woman before but not for another 23 years. I could not recall the next day what had happened. So bizarre, so mysterious, so long ago. I slowly sipped on white porcelain, oblivious and unconscious as I sped through the hassles of the day ahead.

Pin Point Impressionism

Have a gander at this wonderful installation piece built from a stack of wooden logs. Immediately what come to mind are the Pin Point Impression toys that are fun for about two minutes after you cry and spit for one from your mom. This is the time it takes to make a couple hand and face impressions and carefully set the toy aside so they don’t get messed up. You then realize how stupid this toy is and so you cry and spit for something else of equal stupidity. The fact that you cannot spend more than two minutes with a toy this ridiculous is almost as odd as why I keep talking about it.

Let us stare once more at the object for which we came in the first place…

Out of Lviv, Ukraine, Irena Zablotska is a whimsical illustrator whose work seems to inhale qualities of a childhood dream of unusual creatures. Because I am not sure what that means myself, I’ll just say that her work is particularly charismatic, in a creepy sort of way, to our childish desires to walk and talk with such unique creatures. I do love the texturing process of gradient colors mixed with hard lines and patterns in some of her work. It seems that whatever the creature is, it creates for you a union of warm and strange.

Those are my beautiful thoughts today about this artist that I was inspired by at eleven o’clock. Although I am in a giddy, yak-slapping mood, my mind has seen some closure in the form of monsters so I need no longer skip around my office.

While playing in his favorite medium of welded steel, he depicts everyday activities as well as somewhat disturbing imagery. I have seen this sort of illustration-made-3D before by other artists but I found Frank’s work especially appealing. He seems to have captured numerous excitements among a seemingly mundane or ordinary subject matter.

It’s just that I won’t bother to acknowledge the boring ones. All you mothers of one-year-olds out there, do your child a favor and put him on a pair of skates and push him down the stairs.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is just a couple of days away, and since this year’s featured marque is Audi, the Earl of March has commissioned a giant art piece in the automaker’s honor. The art piece looks like a part of some Hot Wheels collection, only it’s massive. It is 135 feet tall, weighs 40 tonnes and has a 1937 Auto Union streamliner and an Audi R8 V10 at either end.

This sculpture, which looks like a swoosh of tire tracks has been designed by Gerry Judah, and the self supporting structure is made entirely out of steel. Since Audi is celebrating its centenary this year, having this sculpture to its name would add a nice touch to the celebrations.

The entire mural uses over 400 video sources, including samples from several films—something Brambilla is well-known for in his work. This particular project came with some special technical challenges, though. Crush explains:

We began with exploring the idea of using a game engine to house the project. Seemed easy, map footage onto planes in space, attach a PC to the elevator and we can move up and down in the game environment all day. Unfortunately, once we started to collage the clips together in the Flame we knew the game engine idea wouldn’t fly.

We approximated that we would have 250 looped HD clips in the environment and our Flame could barely handle it (in the end it was closer to 500 looping clips). We compromised by locking ourselves into the idea that we would create a huge vertical canvas that we would scan up and down on once the elevator was in motion. The final piece was approximately 1920 x 7500 pixels.

Austrian architects Xarchitekten, designed the interior of this jeweler in Linz. I guess there are four wooden volumes that are depicted as treasure chests or troves of booty. The plunder is situated within carpeted ceiling and walls which makes for a soft cave. Or, to stop beating around the bush, this is clearly an episode of Star Trek. I guess I can understand how a Klingon warship would look somewhat like a jeweler’s stash. However, nuff said. This is an extremely, well-designed spaceship.

It just occurred to me that I haven’t grilled any music for awhile. Well, it just so happenstances that the last album I bought was Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest. I rolled my eyes back into my head when Pitchfork gave it a 9 out of 10 on their sometimes bullshit scale. Anyway I needed to buy that shit to see what the grand scheme was. This album is one of those that you don’t forget about a year from now. I foresee this album hovering at the top of many independent music lists for this year and it is sure as hell the best album I have had the pleasure of meeting since January. Don’t ask me what was better than this album because I won’t tell you. You will just have to read old blog posts and decipher what that album may be for yourself.

Fall in awe over this new installation art piece created by Morgane Tschiember. Aluminum foil with lacquered colors bends over gently to flash the audience. This installation is shear intuition. The paper-like folding creates interesting shadows and reflections that bring forth a jumping up and down and hand clapping experience.

The room certainly is amazing. Now if the colorful circles actually fell into your bed and exploded neon juice all over you, that would be something. I do think something like this is worth having though. It wouldn't be too toilsome to stick a projector on the opposite wall and program into the computer where all of your furniture is in relation to the circles being projected. Yeah I used the word, toilsome. Better than any stupid words you could think of. Come back when you can compete at my literal level.

Check out this video of an amazing new installation work titled, "You Fade To Light" consisting of numerous tiny OLED panels. When viewers walk past them, the normally illuminated panels power down and become transparent or something. …these new glass enclosures that extend 4.3 feet beyond the side of the building. Beneath peoples’ feet lies the sprawling Illinois city - 103 storeys, or 1,353 feet, below. Just an inch-and-a-half of glass separates the visitor from the street underneath. The attraction is due to open in June.

Hints of light and music produce an overall experience that is far superior to any wall you’ve ever stared at. It would be even better if they made skyscrapers do this. We would have epic flowy cityscapes in a combination of Dr. Seuss and Blade Runner architecture. Totally rad.

This holy Lego masterpiece was created with the help of 40 volunteers during a span of 18 hours. The final product shows Jesus with open arms ready to grab anyone who goes in for a closer look. Looks pretty amazing but tell me what is up with his right foot. That thing is nasty.

Concurrently, his focus on the connotations of materials as a way to construct narratives, coupled with the fact that the wearer is at times completely concealed, allows the work to transcend preconceived notions of class, race, and sexuality. Sony creates a heart out of over 100 pieces of different Sony kits. The heart measures 2 meters by 2 meters and pulses with parts from Sony’s Bravia TVs, Blu-ray players, VAIO laptops, Walkmans, Cyber-shot cameras and PS3s. Why is this heart in a dark corner of someone's living room? And why did they even create it? I can only assume it is For the next generation of super power flashy stuff.
